An earthquake with a magnitude reading of 7.9 struck Nepal on Saturday, April 25, 2015, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

According to the USGS, the quake hit at 6:11am UTC and centered at 29km (18mi) east southeast of Lamjung or 81km (50mi) northwest of Kathmandu.

Reports say strong tremors were felt across Nepal and parts of India, which prompted many residents to run outside their homes.

Initially measured at 7.5 magnitude, USGS later adjusted the temblor's Richter Scale reading to 7.9, with a depth of 15km.

Media reports said the quake, which lasted between 30 seconds and two minutes, caused damages to several properties.

Taken moments after the tremors, the video below shows huge road cracks caused by the earthquake in Bhaktapur.
